for Ward 6 Nether Providence Township Commissioner

My name is Rebecca Gerber, and I am running to represent the 6th Ward on the Nether Providence Township Board of Commissioners. Since 2009 I’ve been proud to call the 6th Ward home, as the Weston/Putnam Village area offers affordable opportunities for first-time homebuyers like myself. I’m grateful every day that my children get to attend Nether Providence Elementary, a school community full of skilled, loving teachers and warm, welcoming staff. As a relative “newcomer” to Delaware County, I also enjoy exploring the distinct character and history of the County’s many municipalities!

Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, I graduated from Barnard College and spent several years working to support small business owners in Lower Manhattan after 9/11. I then earned my Masters in City and Regional Planning degree at Rutgers-New Brunswick (Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy) and began working in fundraising to support community economic development efforts in the Philadelphia region. In my current role as Grants Manager for the Free Library of Philadelphia Foundation, I help obtain public and private funding to support the library system’s essential programs and services.

I joined the Nether Providence Democratic Committee in 2017, and have enjoyed greeting 6th Ward voters on primary and general election days ever since. I’ve also learned that the role of local government is both incredibly important and often overlooked. National politics attract the most attention, but local elections often have more impact on our daily lives. Our local elected officials are the ones that have the power to bring valuable resources to our communities, set or change local policy to increase transparency and equity, and respond quickly when concerns arise in our own backyards.

Over the coming weeks and months, I look forward to meeting you and asking about the issues that are most important to you as 6th Ward residents. Together, we can ensure that all parts of Nether Providence are equally represented at the township level.

Thank you for your support!
